In view of the crucial role that science and technology play in today's society, an increasing number of scientists is necessary if innovation and development are to be sustained.  One of the missions of the Faculty of Science is to prepare students to become self-reliant scientists imbued with the critical thinking and adaptability necessary to meet tomorrow's technological challenges.

Ulg's Faculty of Science has three main locations: in Angleur, Liège and Arlon.  The Faculty possesses several buildings on the Sart Tilman campus, which house the Institutes of Astrophysics and Geophysics, Botany, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics. The Arlon campus specializes in training and research in the field of energy and sustainable development.  In the Liège city centre, the Faculty occupies part of the Institute of Zoology ("Edouard Van Beneden") where first year bachelor's students in biology do their lab work. which favours a close interplay between the Faculty's "Réjouisciences" unit and the Embarcadère du Savoir, the Aquarium-Museum, the House of Science and the ULg's Espaces botaniques.

Instruction at the Faculty is a reflection of its pluridisciplinarity, organized as it is into nine departments. Each offers bachelor's and master's programs (biology, chemistry, geography, geology, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics and modelling, geomatics and geometrology, oceanography, environmental studies and management, spatial sciences).  In addition, the Faculty offers complementary master's programs in aquaculture, biotechnology, nanotechnologies, natural risks, etc.

Directly involved in research, the Faculty of Science graduates approximately 50 PhD students per year and works in close collaboration with several research centres (the Centre for Analysis of Residues in Traces, the Centre for Protein Engineering, the Cyclotron research Centre, the Spatial Centre of Liège, the Center for Microscopy of the University of Liège, etc.).  The Faculty is also associated with the Submarine and Oceanographic Research Station at Calvi (Corsica), the Resarch Station at Jungfraujoch (Switzerland) and the Scientific Station at Mont-Rigi (marshland of the Ardennes plateau).
